Leeds International Medieval Congress, 3-6 July 2017

In accordance with the 2017 Congress’ special thematic strand on otherness, this session will be entitled ‘Emotion and Otherness in Middle English Theatre’. The session will consider questions including, but not limited to:

  • How does Middle English theatre represent the emotions of others (e.g., Jews, lepers, individuals suffering from mental illness, God/Christ, angels, demons, allegorical representations of sin and vice)?
  • What types of emotion do Middle English theatrical representations of such others solicit? How? Why?
  • Do Middle English theatrical presentations conceptualise emotional experience as rendering us other from ourselves? How? Why?

If you are interested in participating in this panel, please send an email to paul.megna@uwa.edu.au containing your name, the title of your paper and a 100-word abstract by 15 September 2016.
